Old Entry #9: Ten Rules for Being Human

I haven't posted an old entry in a while, but seeing as this day isn't about to get productive in a real world sense, I might as well do something to make it.

I don't think I need to explain this very much, though.  It pretty much says everything already.

Ah, the indubitable veracity of it.  Life is, indeed, a cycle of brouhahas and gleeful moments divided into variants and sundry events.

My dad introduced me to these rules a year ago before I left home for college; along with a book he gave me entitled "Life's Little Instruction Book" by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.  It was a present among presents.

Truth be told, I did, indeed, forget about them, then I would remember a line each time it would apply to a situation I get stuck in.  And then I'd forget about it again.

But I guess the essence isn't in remembering the statements verbatim, it's in printing these lines onto your heart.  Life is a non-packaged journey of endless possibilities.  It's how we handle ourselves in the process that truly matters.

* You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it but it will be yours for this time around.

* You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called life. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant or stupid.

* There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial and error: experimentation. The failed experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiment that lands up working.

* A lesson is repeated until learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it you can then go on to the next lesson.

* Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that does not contain lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.

* ‘There’ is no better than ‘here’. When your ‘there’ has become ‘here’ you will simply obtain another ‘there’ that will again look better than ‘here’.

* Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.

* What you make of life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need – what you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.

* The answers lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen and trust.

* You will forget all this, remember it, and forget it again!
